New Westminster-Burnaby

Summer Games

In 1973, an entire lake full of water lilies proved to be a sizeable obstacle for organizers in New Westminster and Burnaby, British Columbia. Dredged of its aquatic flora, the venue was ultimately worthy of the painstaking efforts that went into its preparation: Sports Illustrated would refer to it as “the finest rowing course in the western hemisphere.”
